I visited the job centre. What an unpleasant experience! I have spent a number of times at various points in my career visiting this place and it doesn't get any better.
The Job Centre appears to be a breeding ground for all those groups of people in society who are discrimated against. These people are not the citizens who are looking for jobs but the staff. It appears to me that the Job Centre is equal opportunities gone mad. One definate pre-requisite of a role at your local job centre is to be rude, ignorant, patronising or just plain stupid.
The place reminds me of an episode of'The League Of Gentlemen'. This may sound cruel but it is purely for comedic purposes. There is the lady with a limp, the wonky eyed lady (I didn't know who she was looking at, the guy with spectacles like Mr McGoo, the indian boy on reception who could hardly speak English(not racist just fact), and the bouncers (which consist of two British Bulldog type women who prevent anyone from heading to the second floor without an appointment). Now I don't begrudge any of these people a chance in life, but for God sake they must have a brain and manners to work there as well as an unfortunate disability.
Having trained people in Customer Service skills this kind of thing really gets my goat.
A member of staff barked her orders at me in the most patronising manner and the interview I had was extremely patronising. I dread to ever have to go back.
